Sevilla 2007 – More than 1000 registered participants

February 28, 2007

More than 1,000 leaders, experts, and officers from local and regional governments have already registered for the Fifth European Conference on Sustainable Cities & Towns in Sevilla, 21-24 March 2007.

The conference, which is co-organized by the City of Seville and ICLEI–Local Governments for Sustainability, will serve as an important platform for exchanging experiences and for generating new ideas with regard to making cities better places to live in. It has attracted delegates from all over Europe and beyond, marking the most relevant European meeting for local and regional governments.

Debates have been organized for over 40 sessions, focusing on a wide range of aspects of sustainable urban and regional development. A dialogue with other levels of government will complement these discussions. This is especially important since 2007 marks the celebration of 50 years of European integration.

Keynote speakers will address critical issues for local sustainability. The speakers include Dennis Meadows, Member of the Club of Rome and author of ‘Limits To Growth’, and Cristina Narbona Ruiz, Spanish Minister for the Environment.

The conference will close with a strong message for future action and an opportunity to demonstrate local commitment during an official signing ceremony of the Aalborg Commitments. Adding Seville’s famous hospitality, gastronomy and cultural features, this conference is bound to become a unique experience and a milestone in the Aalborg process on local sustainability.

The City of Seville and ICLEI are looking forward to an exciting and productive conference in Sevilla! Registration is still open - register now online!
