Launch of a sustainable procurement guide in Latin America

October 25, 2006

In Săo Paulo (Brazil) on 27 October, a day-long seminar will bring together authorities from the public sector and specialists on sustainable procurement to discuss state-of-the-art information techniques and to learn about good practices in Brazil.

The Seminar will stimulate discussions on the access to information for providers of goods and services that look for market space in sustainable businesses.

The event will also serve as the launch of the new publication ‘Guide on Sustainable Procurement – The Use of Power in Government Purchasing for the Promotion of Sustainable Procurement’. The Guide is described as an instrument that supports and stimulates Brazilian public authorities to promote responsible decisions from a socio-environmental rights point of view. The Guide, to be distributed free of charge to the public, will include data and information on public procurement, demonstrating that bidding could be transformed into an important and efficient tool to promote sustainable development.

More information on the Seminar and the publication – in Portuguese – at www.ces.fgvsp.br. For more information on the work being accomplished at the ICLEI Latin America and Caribbean Secretariat (LACS), please visit www.iclei.org/lacs.
