Municipal Climate Adaptation Workshop

On 2 April 2008 ICLEI will co-host the New England (U.S.A.) Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers Municipal Climate Adaptation Workshop.
The Municipal Adaptation Workshop will bring together local governments in <st1:place w:st="on">Eastern Canada</st1:place> to learn more about forecasted regional climate impacts and updated methodologies for preparing for those impacts. One of the highlights of the Workshop will be a hands-on adaptation prioritization session in which ICLEI representatives will work with participants to identify climate vulnerabilities in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">St. John’s</st1:city></st1:place> and opportunities for building resiliency to those vulnerabilities. Lessons learned from this exercise will be applicable and usable in all Canadian communities.
The Workshop will also provide an opportunity for attendees to learn about best adaptation practices from municipalities around the region, including <st1:city w:st="on">Keene</st1:city>, <st1:state w:st="on">New Hampshire</st1:state> (<st1:country-region w:st="on">U.S.A.</st1:country-region>) and <st1:city w:st="on">Toronto</st1:city> (<st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Canada</st1:place></st1:country-region>). This knowledge, coupled with the interactive prioritization workshop will provide attendees with the knowledge and skills necessary to begin enhancing the resiliency of their respective communities to a changing climate.
The Workshop, being held in <st1:city w:st="on">St. John’s</st1:city>, <st1:state w:st="on">Newfoundland</st1:state> (<st1:country-region w:st="on">Canada</st1:country-region>), is co-hosted by the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers, the <st1:placetype w:st="on">Province</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Newfoundland</st1:placename> and Labrador, the City of St. John’s, Newfoundland and <st1:place w:st="on">Labrador</st1:place>, and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability.
