SWITCH scoops global sustainability award

UNESCO-IHE, on behalf of the SWITCH Consortium and the European Commission, the main funder of the "SWITCH – Managing Water for the City of the Future" project, bagged the IWA’s Sustainability Award 2012 for ‘innovation in the practical realization of sustainable urban water management’.

The SWITCH approach of integrating water management at the city level, through learning alliances, research, demonstrations and training, has already been taken up by the World Bank and others. 

SWITCH has influenced water policy, patented innovations, and – apart from the SWITCH Training Kit - produced multiple manuals, guidelines and analysis tools which can be downloaded from www.switchurbanwater.eu.

The award was presented by IWA President, Glenn Daigger to Carol Howe (SWITCH Project Manager) at the IWA Biennial World Water Congress in Busan, Korea on 18 September 2012. 

SWITCH Training Kit published by ICLEI

Local governments have even more good reasons now to take advantage of the SWITCH Training Kit to review and enhance their current urban water systems!

The six modules outlining the cornerstones of an integrated approach and covering all components of the urban water cycle are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese and can be freely downloaded from the SWITCH Training Desk at www.switchtraining.eu.
