Urban Environmental Management Training Resource Kit
In 2001, ICLEI, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) developed and edited a comprehensive Urban Environmental Management Training Resource Kit for local authorities. It was co-authored by Environment Canada and the Potchefstroom University, South Africa. The resource kit is designed to assist local authorities in the development of a practical and pragmatic approach to implementing environmental management systems (EMS) in their own organization. The kit helps local authorities develop a systematic approach to integrate environmental considerations into all aspects of their activities. Local authorities learn how to: 1) to understand the need for an integrated approach to environmental challenges, 2) adapt the EMS framework to the specific needs of a local administration and 3) provide the knowledge and the practical tools to develop and implement an EMS at the local level.
