Kaohsiung hosts international LAB conference

The City of Kaohsiung has recently joined the Local Action for Biodiversity (LAB) program and the URBIS Initiative.

As part of the vision and drive the city has for sustainability, they recently hosted an ‘International Conference on Local Action for Biodiversity in Kaohsiung’. This was a two day event followed by a two day field trip to local wetlands and forests. It was attended by Sarah Birch and Georgina Avlonitas of the ICLEI Cities Biodiversity Center, and Bedoshruti Sadhukhan from ICLEI South Asia.

In addition, three other LAB cities joined – City of Cape Town, Joondalup and Nagoya. Together numerous lessons and case studies were shared between the LAB cities, providing a unique learning experience for all. The conference was also open to the public, and provided a unique mixture of both science and policy. A full write up on the event will be published in the upcoming Cities Biodiversity Center to be published in December.
