Large cleanup in Kanifing, Gambia
2012/10/24
As part of Gambia’s national ‘Operation Clean the Nation’ the Gambia National Transport Control Association (GNTCA), along with the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) undertook a large cleanup exercise from 20 – 21 October, 2012.
Mustapha M. Njai, who is chief executive officer of the KMC, pointed out that a large quantity of still to-be-collected waste remained in numerous wards thought the Municipality after the last cleaning effort.
"Consequently, the Council engaged the GNTCA which in effect provided a total of 11 heavy duty trucks for the task. The Council on its part provided fuel for the trucks and mobilized its labor force for the task," he stated.
He also praised the efforts of the Transport Association and said that Mayor Yankuba Colley placed an important emphasis on the nation’s goal to close the gap between other developed countries and The Gambia.
