Edmonton honored
The City of Edmonton, a remarkable LAB Pioneer city, has been honored by the Government of Alberta, with the 2012 Minister’s Award for Municipal Excellence. The City received this award for its commitment and achievements towards making the city more environmentally sustainable by 2040.
The City has been making giant strides in mainstreaming environmental issues locally and received the Municipal Excellence Award for its outstanding, “The Way We Green” environmental strategic plan at the Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) conference held in Edmonton on the 27 September 2012. This is the second local environmental excellence award that has been won by the City of Edmonton in recent month, with the City winning the 2012 Environment Award from the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators earlier this year.
The 2012 Minister’s Award for Municipal Excellence does not only indicate Edmonton’s commitment to ensuring local environmental sustainability, but solidifies the City’s leading role as a world-class city dedicated to ensuring that global environmental sustainability is achieved through local action.
