IUCN World Conservation Congress opens in style
On 6 September in a lavish colourful ceremony, the IUCN World Conservation Congress opened in Jeju, South Korea. Delegates were addressed by the South Korean President, Lee Myung-bak, who stressed the importance of green growth and reflected on his country's contribution to sustainability. 10 thousand delegates including global environmental champions, experts, technical and political government officials, and representatives of NGOs and businesses, comprising 170 nationalities will populate hundreds of events over the course of the next 10 days.
As a Member of IUCN, ICLEI will be voting on various motions to help shape the global agenda for biodiversity conservation. ICLEI is also partnering in the organization of two workshops:
