Working with Nature: UN-Habitat produces new guidance


UN-Habitat, a long standing partner of ICLEI, recently produced a series of publications, entitled, Urban Patterns for a Green Economy. One such publication provides guidance on “Working with Nature” to improve the functioning of city-regions’ natural systems. This guide offers an approach to working with nature at the scale of the urban region. This approach involves assessing and safeguarding the ecological processes that operate within the region, so that the ecosystem services that they provide will be available to present and future city residents. The eight case studies in this guide illustrate that innovation in pursuit of maintaining the ecological functioning of a city and its region can bring sustained benefits.
