CITIES BIODIVERSITY CENTER

'My dream for my City'

Documentary maker Tremayne Ward Smith and Georgina Avlonitis, of ICLEI's Cities Biodiversity Centre, took to the streets to ask everyday citizens what it is that they dream of for the city they call home.

They interviewed people from all walks of life - from street sweepers to business men, from children to the elderly, from students to the homeless. All were asked the same question: "what is your dream for your city?"

It was hoped that their answers would provide additional motivation and inspiration for everyone to find common ground at the Rio+20 Cities Day and work together towards coming up with local government solutions for increased global sustainability.

The process of making the short video was truly a positive one and it was a privilege to hear everyone's stories first-hand. It was inspiring affirmation that no matter what city, race or demographic we come from, we are all ultimately on the same page.

Everyone recognised the need for greener, safer, sustainable cities and everyone aspired to something more and something better. The overall theme that came across was that if we can envision it, then it is possible - and it starts with us as individuals.
