The First Meeting of ICLEI Africa's Regional Executive Committee (REXCOM)
2012/06/14
ICLEI Africa's Regional Executive Committee (REXCOM) successfully held its first meeting, on 14 June, against the backdrop of the opening of the ICLEI World Congress. The REXCOM nominated Mayor James Nxumalo of Durban as its representative on the Global Executive Committee (GEXCOM), Mayor Ousmane Drame of Nioro du Rip, Senegal, as the Committee Chair, with Mayor Mohamud Nooranee Allybocus of Vacoas-Phoenix, Mauritius, as the Vice-Chair. The Mayor of the City of Cape Town was unfortunately not able to attend, but was able to send representatives instead.
Part of ICLEI's new governance reform, ICLEI Africa's Executive Committee comprises 5 portfolios: Health, Water, Sanitation and Waste (Mayor Allybocus); Urban Planning and Design, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (Mayor de Lille); Economic Development, Livelihoods and Food Security (Mayor Dramé); Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction (Mayor Nxumalo); and Energy and Mobility, which is yet to be allocated to a Local Government head.
