Managing Africa’s Urban Transformation
2012/05/30
Africa is the continent which is going through the most rapid urbanisation in the world. Its cities are driving most of the continent’s economic growth, and are the geographical units within which the viability of Africa’s sustainable development will be decided.
The Economist Group, in partnership with ICLEI, held a two day conference on urbanisation in Africa 30-31 May in Lagos, Nigeria. The nearly 200 participants included ICLEI members Mayor Patricia de Lille of Cape Town, Mayor Didas Massaburi of Dar es Salaam, Mayor Parks Tau of Johannesburg, and of course his Excellency the Governor of Lagos, Babatunde Raji Fashola. All of whom joined international experts in giving a range of innovative and relevant presentations on urbanisation issues.
More information, together with outcomes and images of the event, will soon be available on the Economist Conferences website.
