Stakeholder meeting in Chennai
A half-day session on Integrating urban climate guidelines through clean technologies (RE&EE) at the state and city level to build sustainable low carbon cities was held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 18 April at The Raintree Hotel in Alwarpet, Chennai.
Project city representatives in Chennai, state officials from Tamil Nadu’s Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, the urban development department, environment ministry, energy department, engineering division and all relevant stakeholders discussed the project and its outcomes, and shared effective development approaches from their cities.
Udaipur discusses action plan
On April 3, the last of three meetings on low carbon action plans for cities in Rajasthan was concluded. Stakeholders discussed the action plan and added their comments to it based on their experience in dealing with the procedures put forth, and their knowledge on Udaipur's existing systems. The action plan was drafted using guidelines on how to reduce carbon emissions in a low-cost, sustainable manner.
Action plan discussed in Kota
Immediately after the Jodhpur meeting, another was held in Kota on 2 April to discuss the draft action plan for lowering carbon emissions in the city. The action plan was drafted using guidelines on how to build low carbon cities in a low-cost, sustainable manner.
Draft action plan for Jodhpur
Following the stakeholder consultation in Jaipur on 12 March, another meeting was held on “Integrating urban climate guidelines through clean technologies (RE&EE) at the state and city level to build sustainable low carbon cities” in Jodhpur on 2 April. The meeting was held to discuss an action plan that was drafted for Jodhpur using guidelines based on how to build low carbon cities in a low-cost, sustainable manner. 
First state-level meet for low carbon initiative
The first state-level meet on “Integrating urban climate guidelines through clean technologies (RE&EE) at the state and city level to build sustainable low carbon cities”, a project jointly supported by the British High Commission and ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability is to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 12 March at The Fern -An Ecotel Hotel in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

During the half-day session, project cities in Rajasthan, state officials from Rajasthan’s municipal administration, urban development department, environment ministry, energy department, engineering division and all relevant stakeholders discussed the project and its outcomes, and shared effective development approaches from their cities, with the aim of piecing together the best way forward.

Over two years, the project seeks to build sustainable low carbon cities by developing appropriate urban climate guidelines for Indian cities, as well as an India-specific GHG Protocol and a Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system for low carbon actions. Financially supported by the British High Commission in India, this process will be implemented by ICLEI South Asia in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan.
