The proposed project is aimed at promoting sustainable waste management practices in urban areas of South Asia. It will introduce the concepts of zero waste to the municipal corporations in South Asia which are facing the challenge of waste management and promote the reduction in waste generation through reuse and recycling of waste materials in pilot demonstration areas within each project city.

It will also try to create an inclusive society and contribute to poverty alleviation through integrating the informal waste collection and segregation sector already existent in the cities into the formal waste management mechanism followed by the municipal corporation.
