CITIES BIODIVERSITY CENTER

On 7 October 2011 the “Global workshop on climate adaptation: Biodiversity and carbon absorption for local action” was hosted in Changwon City, South Korea.

Alongside co-organisers Green Gyeongnam 21 Council, Masan Bay Council and ICLEI Korea office, Gyeongnam Province warmly welcomed local groups from across the Republic of Korea. These included environmental NGOs, and also Shela Patrickson from the ICLEI Cities Biodiversity Center.

On invitation, Shela gave the keynote address on the Global overview of local action for biodiversity, as well as a presentation later in the afternoon describing the Local Action for Biodiversity (LAB) Pioneer Project. These biodiversity and forward-thinking environmental practices were illustrated in presentations by Gyeongnam Province, Changwon City, and Jeju Island.

Thank you to the hosts and organisers, we look forward to working with the ICLEI office and local governments in Korea!
