BiodiverCities Advisory Committee meets in Bonn
The BiodiverCities Advisory Committee comprises of mayors from cities leading the way in urban biodiversity management and leaders of international organisations, who gather annually to give guidance and advice to ICLEI’s global biodiversity programme, BiodiverCities.
Some of the high-level representative’s included Commissioner Babu M.T. Krishna of the Greater Municipality of Hyderabad Corporation; the Deputy Secretary of International Relations of the City of São Paulo, Mr. Guilherme Mattar; the Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, Mr. James Nxumalo and the Director of Global Division for UN-HABITAT, Ms. Axumite Gebre-Egziabher.
The meeting, chaired by ICLEI Secretary General, Konrad Otto-Zimmermann, generated lively discussions from participants on pertinent issues around global challenges for biodiversity in the urban context, including ideas around funding for urban biodiversity and global advocacy for cities at the eleventh Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP11) to be hosted by Hyderabad.
Commissioner Krishna from Hyderabad was endorsed by the members as the newest member of the Advisory Committee.
