Mysore to be part of the ACCCRN (D&R) Project
Mysore - a heritage city under UNESCO’s program will be the third city to be part of the ACCCRN (D&R) project along with Shimla and Bhubaneswar. ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, in a collaborative effort between its Oceania and South Asia offices, is to implement the third Phase - Dissemination & Replication (D&R) of Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN) initiative funded by the Rockefeller Foundation in three cities in India.
Engaging with the project cities of Shimla and Bhubaneswar
A team from ICLEI South Asia visited the project cities - Shimla and  Bhubaneswar to introduce and initiate the project activities in the respective municipal corporations.

During the visits, the team explained the role of the corporations and ICLEI South Asia in the project. Under the project, Climate Core Teams were established in the respective municipal corporations of both the cities, which will be responsible for day to day monitoring and supervision of the project activities at the municipal level.

ICLEI South Asia presented the project to  the Climate Core Teams in detail and discussed the next steps for the project. The Climate Core Teams discussed the formation of a Local Stakeholder Group which will have an advisory role in the project, and will include local level stakeholders to increase ownership and transparency in the project activities.

During its visit to Shimla, between 27 and 28 May, discussions were held with the Municipal Commissioner of Shimla. The Assistant Commissioner was nominated as the Project Nodal Officer for the Core Team. The Climate Core Team consisted of the representatives from the engineering department, drainage department, health and sanitation department, and forest department. The urban development department, Government of Himachal Pradesh has also been apprised of the initiative of the Shimla Municipal Corporation in this project. They introduced the project to the State Government officials from the department of environment, science and technology who has also shown interest in associating with the project.

In Bhubaneswar,  the team met the Municipal Commissioner and the Mayor of Bhubaneswar Corporation, between 6 and 7 June. The Environment Officer was nominated as the Nodal Officer for the project. The Commissioner cum Secretary, Urban Development was also informed about the project in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
Two Indian cities selected for ACCCRN-D&R project
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, South Asia is pleased to announce that the Municipal Corporations for Shimla and Bhubaneswar have been selected to participate in the Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network – Dissemination & Replication (ACCCRN-D&R) project on the basis of an Expression of Interest that was circulated to over 35 Indian cities.
