Prioritising climate change risks in Port Louis, Mauritius

ICLEI Africa's Climate Adaptation team has recently returned from a series of five workshops which they undertook within the Municipal Council of Port Louis, Mauritius from 24 March – 1 April 2011. The workshops involved interacting with a range of key stakeholders, as well as site visits to vulnerable areas within the Port Louis jurisdiction that are affected by a range of impacts, such as extreme rainfall resulting in localised flooding, erosion, stagnant water bodies and landslides.

They focused on prioritising climatic variables that are exerting the most  pressure upon service delivery, infrastructure and local communities within the city whilst discussing and identifying locally-appropriate adaptation options to reduce climate vulnerability.
