The Five City Network pioneers climate adaptation through participation, research and local action. The five cities are Walvis Bay, Namibia; Cape Town, South Africa; Maputo, Mozambique; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Port Louis, Mauritius.
This is open to these five cities, who can enter by submitting up to two proposals around Adaptation to climate change and increasing resilience. The proposals do need to be submitted by the five project cities, but partnership with other cities is encouraged! ICLEI hopes that other interested cities will consider partnering with one or more of the five cities mentioned, in order to join the competition, and ultimately build stronger relationships between African cities and networks.
Funding will go towards initiating or supporting / enhancing innovative initiatives or programmes proposed by the cities. At the next project conference, scheduled in 2012 and given a platform to showcase how they have embarked upon the use of the funding.
