Day #6- 4 December 2010: First reference to governmental stakeholders in the UNFCCC official documents

Today, Local Governments achieved a major goal. For the first time in the UNFCCC history, stakeholders are referred in an official decision as governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.

This is the result of one full week of advocacy work for the enhancing of the civil society involvement in the UNFCCC process. Local Governments have worked together with other civil society constituencies towards a stronger and systematic representation of observers in the UNFCCC process. In addition, the specific role of Local Governments as governmental stakeholders was strongly advocated, and fruitfully resulted in the specific wording in paragraph 5 of the adopted conclusions by the Chair of the Subsidiary Body for Implementaiton to the UNFCCC on Arrangements for intergovernmental meetings (FCCC/SBI/2010/L.31).
