Activities Update May 2010
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, South Asia, as part of its programme to prepare an improved environment management plan and audit implementation of its implementation in 15 integrated solid waste management facilities of Hanjer Biotech Energies Pvt. Ltd., has completed the audit of two ISWM facilities in Vasai Virar and Pune in Maharashtra on the 16th and 17th of March, 2010.
The scope of the audit was to verify the implementation of immediate term, short term and long term measures as were laid out in the revised environment management plan submitted to HBEPL in December, 2009. The revised EMP also included all relevant elements of the IFC fund standards applicable to HBEPL.
A status review meeting in May with IDFC and HANJER Biotech Energies Pvt. Ltd. resulted in the finalization of future actions required in the two sites to comply with the prescribed EMP. Subsequent audits of other facilities will be carried out in the coming 6 months.

Activities Update February 2010
- The ICLEI South Asia team visited Hanjer’s ISWM facilities at Mira Bhaiyandar and Vasai in mid-November and discussed the current EMP with the Hanjer management.
- The team has prepared a detailed revised EMP for the construction phase and operation phase, covering all activities being performed in the integrated solid waste management facilities.
- A detailed implementation plan highlighting the immediate term, short term and long term implementation activities covering all aspects of the EMP has been formulated and agreed upon.
- Site audits for assessing compliance with the suggested EMP will begin shortly.
ICLEI South Asia visit to Hanjer Biotech's Facilities
The ICLEI South Asia team visited Hanjer’s ISWM facilitites at Mira Bhaiyandar and Vasai in mid-November and discussed the current EMP with the Hanjer management. The team is in the process of preparing a revised EMP for initial implementation at the two sites. Separate EMPs are being prepared for the construction phase and the operations phase.
