CCP Leaders
Councils participating in CCP-IA will automatically become CCP Leaders and receive access to a range of partnership and political support benefits designed to inform and support decision-makers in integrated local climate change action.
ICLEI Oceania will: - support council decision-makers by providing up-to-date information and analysis of government legislation, policies and programs related to climate change
- advocate on behalf of local government the need for climate action to incorporate both mitigation and adaptation
- seek resources to support standards and protocols for monitoring and reporting climate actions
- maintain the advocacy role of the Australasian Mayors Council for Climate Protection (AMCCP)
- facilitate council access to the climate mayors website to promote climate action
- explore opportunities for ways of supporting and resourcing community climate action.
Councils not participating in CCP-IA may also become CCP Leaders by payment of an annual participation fee available on application. ICLEI Members will receive a 5% discount.
Councils participating in CCP IA will have access to information and resources targeted to the needs and interests of council decision-makers. CCP IA councils will be at the forefront of innovative and replicable approaches to mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and developing strategies to key climate impacts.
The recently established ICLEI-UNEP Bonn Centre for Local Climate Action and Reporting will facilitate the publication of local government commitments, actions and performance in greenhouse gas emissions and reductions; support cities by providing guidance on standards and tools for local climate emissions accounting and reporting; and establish a platform for sharing information and experience on climate data and actions.
CCP Leaders will also have access to: - Leaders Snapshots: regular website updates on happenings locally, nationally and regionally on local climate action
- Climate Mayors: access to the climate mayors website will allow councils to promote and inform others of their climate actions and demonstrate their leadership role
- Australasian Mayors Council for Climate Protection: AMCCP is a non-partisan, local government advocacy body established in 2007 to advocate the integral role of the local government sector in climate action
- Bi-monthly CCP-IA Bulletin
- information on the implementation local climate action, including carbon and climate liabilities, integration of mitigation and adaptation actions, case studies, and worldwide news
- developments and initiatives in climate action, including updates on the implications of federal and state government policies, programs and funding for councils, and innovative tools, measures and actions that councils are taking across Australia and around the world on climate change
- Council Briefings: Web-based conferencing on relevant topics and issues plus email and telephone advice plus pre-bookings for council briefings on ICLEI initiatives and updates on climate policies impacting on local government.
- International networking: including the Resilient Cities Conference, Bonn, Germany, Special World Congress, Incheon City, Korea, and the Conference of the Parties, Cancun, Mexico, plus the activities of the World Mayors Council on Climate Change and the work of organisations such as United Cities and Local Governments, Metropolis, C40 and CityNet
- Political Recognition: recognition at the LGMA National Congress and ALGA National General Assembly, and selected state conferences and forums.
