CCP Projects in Southeast Asia
LOCAL RENEWABLES
ICLEI's Local Renewables Initiative enhances energy governance and builds viable local economies. ICLEI assists CCP participants to implement renewable sources of energy such as biomass, solar energy, wind energy and hybrid sources. A major initiative among CCP Participants is the installation of biogas facilities that convert waste to energy.
sample case studies
Denpasar, Indonesia: Community Biogas Project
Muangklang, Thailand: Solar-powered Traffic Lights
Rayong, Thailand: Landfill Gas-to-Energy
CLEANER MOBILITY
In Southeast Asia, ICLEI's Cleaner Mobility Initiative aims to improve people's mobility and access to basic services while reducing reliance on motorized transport. To improve local air quality, ICLEI works with CCP cities to switch to less-polluting and carbon-intensive fuels by looking at cleaner options such as fuel-efficient engines. Other ongoing projects include switching to bio-fuels, managing supply and demand of public utility vehicles, and modal splits between motorized and non-motorized transport modes.
sample case studies
Baguio, Philippines: Vehicle Number Coding Scheme
Chiang Mai, Thailand: Bio-fueled Songteaws
Surabaya, Indonesia: CNG-run Vehicles
LOCAL ENERGY EFFICIENCY
ICLEI's Energy Efficiency Initiative enhances local energy governance in a city?s effort to improve energy efficiency. ICLEI enables CCP participants to undertake measures through better building design and procurement policies, as well as through establishing sustainability management system. CCP participants enjoy financial savings from these measures. Examples include building and streetlight retrofits.
sample case studies
Cagayan de Oro, Philippines: Greening Public Markets
Puerto_Princesa, Philippines: Green Homes
Yogyakarta, Indonesia: Streetlights Retrofits
LOCAL WASTE DIVERSION
In Southeast Asia, ICLEI's Local Waste Diversion Initiative enables CCP participants to minimize waste and build sustainable communities. ICLEI imparts tools for local governments to enact alternative waste disposal measures that recover materials, minimize waste dumping to landfills, and capture methane. ICLEI also encourages CCP participants to divert recovered waste into useful materials such as fertilizer, creating more opportunities for community livelihood. A major measure is the establishment of materials recovery centers.
sample case studies
Naga, Philippines: Materials Recovery Facility
Tungsong, Thailand: Organic Fertilizer from Waste
