At the 31th plenary session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in Bali in October 2009, ICLEI has been accredited as observer organization to the IPCC as the first local government network.

ICLEI has submitted her views on the Scoping Document of the 5th Assessment Report of the IPCC to be released in 2013. This time, the report has significant sections on subnational actions.
