Training and Conferencing
ICLEI – Canada staff are experienced in conducting training, seminars, and workshops on a variety of sustainability related topics.  With events ranging from small group discussions and facilitated dialogues to large multi-day conferences, ICLEI staff have helped to bring local governments together to exchange best practices and network amongst peers from across the country and around the globe.

Recent ICLEI-Canada events include:

Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Training at the Windsor-Essex County Environment Committee Conference
ICLEI Canada was invited to develop and deliver a workshop in Windsor at “Sustain This!  Adapting to Climate Change can lead to a Resilient Windsor Essex,” coordinated by the Windsor-Essex County Environment Committee (WECEC).  The session hosted 50 experts and stakeholders from key government and environmental institutions (including Health Canada and Pollution Probe) and municipal staff from the 8 municipalities within the Windsor-Essex region.  The workshop provided guidance on municipal climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies taking participants through a series of exercises designed to enhance knowledge of the impacts of climate change as well as appropriate climate change response strategies.

Adaptation Initiative Webshops
As part of the Adaptation Initiative, ICLEI Canada continues to host a series of webshops for Initiative participants. Each webshop focuses on a particular component of Changing Climate, Changing Communities: Guide and Workbook for Municipal Climate Adaptation and covers topics from risk and vulnerability assessments to best practices from other local governments. The webshops are an opportunity for Initiative participants to communicate challenges and sucesses and seek specific guidance on any issue they are having.

Climate Change Training in Quebec City/Journée de Formation sur les Changements Climatiques
ICLEI was invited to participate as a facilitator for a workshop on climate change and climate adaptation in Quebec City in early November 2010.  Quebec City is in the early stages of developing a city wide climate adaptation strategy and had its initial meeting with their departments to discuss the plan.  ICLEI-Canada launched a climate change adaptation initiative in November and was requested to provide guidance into the process.  We discussed the impacts of climate change, helped them identify which impacts would affect Quebec City and what departments would be most affected as a result.  We look forward to following their progress.
