8.30 - 9.15 LG Briefing

Briefing meetings for local government representatives will be held every morning  to inform delegates of the status of the negotiations and to plan activities for the day. A series of Briefing Sheets are available to help local government representatives with negotiations and networking.

9.30 - 11.00 Greenhouse Development Rights - What can local governments contribute to climate justice?

This event is organized by ICLEI and Heinrich Böll Stiftung.

A detailed program is available here.

Imagine a world in which both the scandal of global poverty and the threat of climate change were taken seriously. In such a world, what action would be required to deliver human development, economic opportunity and dignity to poor people while at the same time reducing the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases and holding global warming below 2 degrees Celsius?

Can local governments share the efforts towards “climate justice”? What does it mean for the local level and where are the main challenges? How can senior decision makers take responsibility to lead towards climate justice?
