On 8 December 2009, Mr Brice Lalonde, French ambassador in charge of international negotiations on climate change, stated that "Once the Heads of State sign a climate agreement, it will be companies, businesses and local governments which will have to do the job. 8.30 - 9.15 LG Briefing
Briefing meetings for local government representatives will be held every morning to inform delegates of the status of the negotiations and to plan activities for the day. A series of Briefing Sheets are available to help local government representatives with negotiations and networking.
9.30 - 12.30 French Networks: French local and regional governments committed to face climate change challenges
This event is organized by the French Section of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (AFCCRE), member of UCLG, and the French Association of large cities mayors (AMGVF) in partnership with Association of french urban communities (ACUF), French Inter-communal cooperation structures association (ADCF) and Association of French regions(ARF).

This session will gather mayors, deputy mayors and presidents from French cities, counties and regions and representatives from French, European, African official delegations in order to exchange on the contribution from local levels to climate change mitigation and adaptation objectives and to support a clear recognition in the agreement /declaration to be adopted.

Local Action for Biodiversity (LAB), a global urban biodiversity initiative of pioneer cities leading the way for managing and conserving biodiversity at local government level.
Join Scientific Experts and Political Leaders from around the world to discuss the connections between climate change and biodiversity. This connection is momentous with 2010 being the International Year of Biodiversity. Furthermore, the Local Government Biodiversity Roadmap will be launched which highlights the focus on global biodiversity protection up to and beyond 2010.
