Bhubaneswar, India

Bhubaneswar was the first city in India to adopt a city level renewable energy and energy efficiency policy in 2007. The city has a strong commitment to becoming energy efficient, green and clean. As one means of increasing public awareness of energy efficiency, Bhubaneswar has mandated that street vendors install energy efficient lights such as Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs). CFLs provide more light, save energy and reduce GHG emissions. Vendors have now replaced their 40w, 100w, and 200w light bulbs with 18w CFLs.
