The SISAT identifies where your council has already embedded sustainability well, and which areas need further improvement. It assists councils to identify sustainability integration gaps, thereby identifying goals and priority areas for action across key operational areas.
The SISAT is an MS Excel-based application, divided into two components, which can be completed in a relatively short timeframe. Each component consists of a brief, easy-to-complete survey, where councils can rate their performance on a scale of 1–4. An automated Results Page provides you with a graph, so you can easily visualise your performance, and some explanatory text.
The first component provides a sustainability snapshot that gives an initial organisational overview, and takes between 10–20 minutes to complete.
The second component offers a more in-depth analysis of sustainability integration across key areas of council planning and operations. These areas include:
- establishing a business case
- political commitment and leadership
- policy development and adoption
- strategic and corporate planning
- mainstreaming sustainability
- stakeholder engagement and leveraging
- communication, education and training.
Other areas that are covered include data management; performance measurement; sustainability reporting; and continuous improvement.
Over time, councils can utilise the SISAT to monitor progress towards the sustainability integration goals they identified.
The SISAT provides a simple and effective method to assist councils in the journey towards creating a more sustainable future.
