Sub-National Workshops on Indian Cities' Perspective on Post-2012 Climate Agreement & Actions

The main goal of the workshops was to build awareness on international negotiations and environmental treaties and to discuss issue of climate change and the activities undertaken internationally to address this issue. Furthermore, Energy Status Reports and the implementation of City Action Plans – generated under the Roadmap of South Asian Cities and Local Governments for the post-2012 global climate agreement and actions project – were discussed.
At the end of the workshops, participants adopted the Bhopal Call which focuses on the awareness amongst local governments on climate change and their role in confronting this global problem on behalf of their communities.
The chief guest at this workshop was Principal Secretary, Urban Administration & Development Department Shri Raghav Chandra. He addressed the participants and highlighted the global issue of climate change, saying that cities need to act now in combating this issue. He appreciated the efforts of ICLEI South Asia in getting the cities together on one platform to discuss the energy related problems. Among others Principal Secretary, the Commissioner, Urban Administration & Development Department, Shri S N Mishra, and Mr. Taposh Ray. Representative of British High Commission in Madhya Pradesh, participated at the workshop.
The workshop was jointly organised by ICLEI South Asia and City Managers’ Association Madhya Pradesh.
