24 June 2009, Mysore, India and 30 June 2009, Bhopal, India

Under the Roadmap of South Asian Cities and Local Governments for the post-2012 global climate agreement and actions project, project cities’ Energy Status Reports and the implementation of City Action plans are discussed with the respective cities at on-going National and Sub-National workshops.

Two of these sub-national workshops were organised at Mysore on 24th June'09 for the south Indian cities and Bhopal workshop at Bhopal on 30th june'09 for the centre & North cities of India.

- Sub-national workshop in Mysore, India

- Sub-national workshop in Bhopal, India

At both the workshops, ICLEI South Asia presented the energy status report of project cities in India along with generic action plans. The presentation included the analysis of the survey that was conducted in the project cities on their views on implementation of the action plans suggested by ICLEI South Asia.

All the participants noted and agreed with the emission status summary presented. They shared experiences on renewable energy and energy efficiency activities being taken up by their respective corporations.

They all agreed to the view that the local governments should have a say in the formulation of national policy and India’s involvement in international treaties and programmes related to climate change and associated activities. Along with discussion on the energy status and action plans, the viewpoints and suggestions on post 2012 climate agreements was also consolidated into a "Mysore call" & “Bhopal Call” which was agreed upon and signed by participants.

The workshops received an overwhelming response. It was evident from the deliberations and presentations that cities are working towards reducing carbon emissions and are making contribution on their parts in solving the global problem of Climate change.

The Roadmap of South Asian Cities and Local Governments for a post-2012 global climate agreement and actions project is facilitated by ICLEI – South Asia and supported by the British High Commission. The workshops were organised by ICLEI - South Asia in conjunction with its partners.
