ICLEI Council unanimously adopts global LAB Biodiversity Programme

At the ICLEI World Congress, held in June 2009 in Edmonton, a motion was adopted by the ICLEI Council that ICLEI would adopt the Local Action for Biodiversity (LAB) Programme as a global ICLEI Programme.
This means that the LAB Programme will be expanded to go beyond the 21-City Project.Other work streams that will be included in the work of this global initiative include:
- A Global Network of committed local governments
- LAB Progress Groups
- Tools, Research & Capacity Building
- Technical Services and Consultancy
- Promotion & Partnership
- Advocacy & Representation
Quality and performance criteria for all biodiversity projects and activities at the local level will be developed in cooperation with other global ICLEI and IUCN Programmes.
