About Us
ICLEI established its South Asian secretariat in 2005 after implementing numerous projects in India through its United States and European Secretariat under EU and USAID funding. Since then we have today over 43 member cities covering India, Sri- Lanka and Nepal and are implementing projects for the cities with funding support from GIZ, EU, USAID, BHC and others.ICLEI’s South Asia office is presently operating from New Delhi, India. It has its Southern Centre office at Hyderabad.ICLEI South Asia, the South Asian wing of ICLEI International has a mission to help cities in the South Asian region in their efforts to promote sustainable development. ICLEI South Asia has extensive experience of working with Indian cities/urban areas on energy, climate change and sustainability issues. ICLEI South Asia is presently supporting more than 33 Indian cities on climate change, energy efficiency, renewable energy related city level activities.
ICLEI South Asia helps cities to take rapid transformative action and apply radical solutions to achieve tangible improvements through cumulative local actions in the path towards sustainable development.
In the South Asia region, it has emerged as a strong and vibrant local government association.
