The African Local Governments Climate Roadmap Pre-Copenhagen Summit brought together Local Government Leaders from all over Africa, together with key stakeholders and leaders from civil society, national and provincial government local government associations and UN and development agencies in the city of Tshwane, South Africa. With more than 200 participants, this high-level event was well attended by LGs from across South, East, Central and West Africa. The main aim of the Summit was to mobilize African Local Governments to actively engage towards a strong Climate Agreement in Copenhagen in December 2009 at the UNFCCC COP15, and to ensure that local governments are formally recognized as key climate change role players.
