Roadmap of South Asian Cities and Local Governments

Under the Roadmap of South Asian Cities and Local Governments for the post-2012 global climate agreement and actions project, 52 South Asian cities have generated Energy Status Reports and Carbon Emissions Inventories, along with Generic Action Plans.

At present, the Energy Status and the implementation of City Action plans are being discussed with the respective project cities at on-going National and Sub-National workshops in India and in South Asian countries (Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan). The workshops also provide the opportunity to discuss South Asian cities viewpoints on a post-2012 global climate agreement, as well as various activities undertaken internationally to address Climate Change. The goal is to build awareness on international negotiations and environmental treaties.

So far, the workshops have received an overwhelming response with a series of national and sub-national calls being signed. The calls outline the awareness amongst local governments on climate change and their role in confronting this global problem on behalf of their communities. The Roadmap of South Asian Cities and Local Governments is facilitated by ICLEI - South Asia in conjunction with its partners. It is supported by the British High Commission.
