Starting Sunday, our city is playing host to the 2009 ICLEI World Congress.

Running until Thursday June 18, more than 500 mayors, councilors, and other delegates from more than 800 cities around the world will visit our city to discuss environmental sustainability.

ICLEI was founded in 1990 as the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives.

Over 200 local governments from over 40 countries convened at the founding conference, the World Congress of Local Governments for a Sustainable Future, at the United Nations in New York.

The conference takes place every three years, allowing delegates and leaders to share ideas and see what's working in other places.

The conference focuses on 'going green' and among other things, will showcase our city's River Valley, the Local Motion campaign, and our recycling program.

From now until Thursday you can also see the Lights Down Stars Up photography exhibit which is on display at City Hall.
