The Bonn Talks were the most recent United Nations key event in the negotiations towards the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the UNFCCC in Copenhagen in December 2009. Local government delegations were present at this event to discuss the role of LG in a post-2012 global climate agreement.

During the event, LG representatives had the chance to hold bilateral meetings with national delegations' representatives from several countries - including the EU Troika and Heads of Delegations from the EU, the United States and Korea, Australia, India, South Africa, Senegal, Switzerland, and Mexico (as part of the Environmental Integrity Group), as well as with Yvo de Boer, Secretary General of the UNFCCC Secretariat. The LG delegation at these meetings included, inter alia, Klaus Bondam, Vice Mayor of Copenhagen, and Ronan Dantec, Vice President of Nantes.

The meetings were focused on encouraging delegations to introduce references to local action, in particular in the negotiating text that concerns mitigation, technology, access to finance and shared vision. In the adaptation section, referencing has already been achieved and LGs advocacy now aims to preserve these references until the final text is approved in Copenhagen.
