Cities for Safe and Healthy Communities

Foundation Council workshop – 15 May 2009

The second Cities for Safe and Healthy Communities (CSHC) workshop for Foundation Councils was held in Melbourne on 15 May, 2009.

Key stakeholders including AERF and VicHealth also participated in the workshop, which focused on finalising key elements of a data management strategy.

The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to discuss a key CSHC program product: The Data Inventory Tool. The Data Inventory Tool is a reference guide for local government, and underpins Milestone One of the CSHC program.

It describes a range of datasets and how they can be used by local government in reporting to the community and stakeholders, in planning, and in monitoring actions taken to reduce alcohol-related harm.

CSHC has identified 50 datasets that are useful for a range of purposes, and pinpointed 6 indicators that local government can use to measure the effectiveness, equity, and efficiency of their actions.

As part of the establishment phase of Cities for Safe and Healthy Communities, ICLEI Oceania has delivered two workshops in 2008/09 to participating councils.
