Local and regional governments at COP23

COP23, the 23rd United Nations Climate Change Conference will be convened in Bonn, Germany on 6-17 November 2017 under the presidency of the Fiji government and hosted by the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat.

Local and regional governments will once again prove that they are the forefront of climate action.

The agenda of local and regional governments at COP23 will consist of the Climate Summit of Local and Regional Leaders on 12 November, Summit Dialogues on 9-14 November and a Cities & Regional Pavilion for two weeks.

The Summit will focus on multilevel governance as part of national climate action plans, holistic approaches to sustainability, engaging communities and business as well as partnerships with cities and regions in Small Islands Developing States, Africa and Climate vulnerable countries.

For more information on how local and regional governments have engaged at COP22 in Marrakech in 2016, COP21 in Paris in 2015 and the UNFCCC process over time, information is available through the related links.

Ahead of COP23, ICLEI and local and regional leaders across the U.S. have come out strongly against the U.S. decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, reaffirming their commitment to climate action.
