TWINS Conference Ruhr

Essen, Germany

Just as COP23 begins in Bonn, a group of cities will convene at the nearby TWINS Conference Ruhr in the City of Essen, Germany on 6 - 8 November 2017. They will revive their working level city partnerships and forge new ones with other cities, researchers, practitioners and a diversity of sustainable urban development professionals.

The conference goes beyond short-term exchanges, aiming to create lasting international networks and work environments, initiating new TWINS on an expert level. It features thematic world café-style workshops diving into questions that matter to the real-life challenges and concerns in these key areas:

  • Renewable energy and energy transition
  • Sustainable mobility and urban logistics
  • Integrated and participatory urban development
  • Smart cities and digitalization
  • Green buildings and districts
  • Sustainable procurement and finance models
  • Green infrastructure and ecosystem services
  • Water sensitive urban design and water management
  • Resource efficiency and circular economy
  • Green economy and sustainable industry

Results of the world café conversations will be taken off the paper and brought to COP23 at an official side event on 11 November, open to national delegates and the wider global climate change community.
