ICLEI welcomes the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit and congratulates Governor Jerry Brown on his leadership

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability and its 1,500 strong network of local and regional leaders welcome the announcement made by California Governor Jerry Brown, who in 2018 will be convening a Global Climate Action summit for all actors.

The Global Climate Action Summit will play a key role in scaling up multilevel, multi-stakeholder climate action in 2018 and beyond. In this regard, ICLEI also expresses its full support to establishing a connection between the 2018 California Climate Action Summit and this year’s Climate Summit of Local and Regional Leaders in Bonn, where the Under2Coalition will be featured as a special initiative, along with the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy.

Gov. Jerry Brown is now a leading voice in the U.S. climate movement and the wide coalition of local and regional governments committed to climate action worldwide. His appointment as Special Advisor for States and Regions to the COP23 Presidency was another clear confirmation that initiatives by local and regional governments are now one of the key drivers of climate action globally.

ICLEI will bring to the California Summit its expertise on solutions, knowledge exchange and global advocacy in support of 2020 and long-term climate goals.

The 2018 California Climate Action Summit will also cement ICLEI´s long-lasting partnership with the State of California. Over the years we have helped California on their ambitious climate plans, supporting their journey towards climate leadership in the U.S. and worldwide through the Statewide Energy Efficiency Coalition, the California-China Urban Climate Collaborative, and the development of ClearPath, the leading tool for local government and community emissions management.
