Forum with the Global Environment Facility at the Special Assembly of the World Mayors Council on Climate Change 2013

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) provided at the Assembly of the World Mayors Council on Climate Change a special forum held by Dr. Naoko Ishii, CEO and Chairperson of GEF, on 28 September 2013.
This Special Forum was of limited access for Mayors and Heads of Delegation only and it aimed at discussing GEF’s new directions in support for cities and at engaging in a dialogue with the GEF on how working with and through cities can be beneficial to achieve a more integrated approach to climate change, biodiversity and chemicals as well as to engage a broader number of partners.

The Forum, which is one in the GEF CEO’s Forums on Innovation Partnership series, allowed the GEF to discuss and based on this, develop an integrated, multi-stakeholders approach, including the empowering of civil society as key partners of GEF, in addressing the problems of our planet. The dialogue allowed Mayors and Local Leaders of the Special Assembly of the World Mayors Council on Climate Change to directly interact through presentations, statements and debate with Dr. Ishii, GEF CEO and Chairperson.

The discussion also went into the approaches, modalities, but also challenges for cities of working with the GEF and other non-for-profit organisations on climate change issues.
