World Mayors Summit on Climate - Mayors push for hope after Copenhagen

The World Mayors Summit on Climate is convened on 21 November 2010 by Mexico City in conjunction with the World Mayors Council on Climate Change (WMCCC), ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG). These organizations unite thousands of authorities and local governments throughout the world.

The WMSC falls within the context of a series of prior efforts undertaken by cities and local authorities to take action against climate change in the world, such as the signing of the World Mayors and Local Governments Climate Protection Agreement (2007), the Local Government Climate Roadmap (2007), the publication of the Copenhagen World Catalogue of City Commitments to Combat Climate Change (2009), the Copenhagen Climate Communiqué (2009), the Dunkerque 2010 Call on Climate Action (2010), the Bonn Declaration of the Mayors Adaptation Forum (2010) and the Climate Summits of Major Cities of the C40, among many other efforts.

WMSC resulted with the adoption of the Global Cities Covenant on Climate - the Mexico City Pact and launch of the carbonn Cities Climate Registry.
