Community for Towns, Cities and Provinces of Small Islands Developing States (SIDS)

The towns and cities of small island and archipelago-based nations are some of the most vulnerable, diverse, and rapidly growing urban centers anywhere in the world, acting as crucial gateways to sustainable development for the citizens of small island developing states. ICLEI works with towns and provinces in small island states to help them build capacity and learn about successful resilience practices

Cooperating on resilient and sustainable urban development

This ICLEI Community, which was officially launched at Resilient cities 2016, is a group of interested and concerned representatives of towns and provinces of Small Island States. It will support their communication, exchange and cooperation on resilient and sustainable urban development.

The Community shall serve small island Nations. These island nations typically have small populations and a blurring of roles between national and local government. They are faced with multiple, extreme development challenges exacerbated by degraded environments, declining resources, climate change impacts and frequent natural disasters

This ICLEI community is an ICLEI Membership service and is exclusively available to ICLEI members. There is no cost to being a participant in the Community, however ICLEI facilitation and support services will be of a limited nature unless a specific project provides additional funding to enable an increased level of resourcing.
